The Disability Act refers to legislation aimed at protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities. In the UK, the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 made it unlawful to discriminate against disabled persons in employment and the provision of goods and services. This was later succeeded by the Equality Act 2010, which provides a broader definition of disability and protects individuals from discrimination based on various conditions, including physical and mental impairments. The Act also emphasizes the importance of reasonable adjustments in workplaces and public services to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
At GISC we are pleased to be able to offer our SEN skaters and skaters with any additional needs a large range of reasonable adjustments to enable everyone to have a safe and fun skate during our social events, Competitions and Galas.
If there is anything that could make your skating visit a better experience please feel free to contact anyone in the team for support.
British Ice Skating are bringing in a new adventure called Lets Skate for SEN skaters and their clubs, keep an eye out for this
The Children Act is a seminal piece of legislation that was passed in 1989 and is the primary source of child welfare law in England and Wales. It aims to improve and integrate children’s services, promote early intervention, provide strong leadership, and bring together different professionals in multi-disciplinary teams to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people and their families.
The key focuses of the Act are the importance of children’s welfare and the requirements and expectation of anyone who has a duty of care to a child.
